I have been working on my family tree since my late teens so that would be about 50 years now. It is fascinating to me to piece together the family puzzle and make discoveries while also going down lots of dead ends. It is kind of like being a detective.
In the beginning it was all paper, file boxes and snail mail! Now - WOW!
The history of what was happening in the country my relatives were from helps me to better understand them and why they did the things they did. What was going on in Northern Italy to make my maternal Great Grandmother marry a man she did not know and travel to a far off mining town in America where she didn't know the language?
The window shutters in the tiny village of Cloz, Italy where my Great grandmother lived |
Or why my father's parents both left England and Scotland separately to travel to Montreal, Canada in their early 20's only to meet each other up there and then travel to California to live?
That's them waving to you from the front seat of the car.....
Hi Grandma Violet and Grandad John!
Come along for the ride.
I am sure we will discover some interesting characters along the way!
We have lots of deciphering to do to get to the bottom of things......
Am I actually related to royalty?
Or is it really my husband Mr. B who has royalty in his bloodline?
And did both of our families come from Scottish castles in the Highlands?
One never knows.....perhaps you and I are cousins?
