BACON & FLOYD

Sarah is born & then baptized at St. Catherine’s in Gloucester on the 13th of July 1795

St. Catherine’s in Gloucester

Robert Bacon was originally from Williton, Somerset, and baptized in the parish church of St Decuman's.

 St. Decuman's Baptism – 4 May 1788

Robert was a laborer Stone Riser and he finds work in Gloucester when he meets and marries Sarah Floyd at St John the Baptist Church in Gloucester on the 5th of July 1813. Robert was indexed as BAKON rather than BACON.

*Notes: (I could not find any information about this job even looking at “old occupations”)

Notice that they needed the consent of “Parents” to wed which probably means they were underage at the time.

St. John the Baptist in Gloucester

Robert and Sarah appear to live in Gloucester for a while as two of their daughters were born & baptized in Gloucester in 1814 and 1817. They are my 3rd Great-Grandparents.

Sarah Bacon – baptized on the 3rd of July 1814 at St. John the Baptist in Gloucester

*Note: Robert is a Shoemaker here and later becomes a "stone riser" so this baptism record is still under debate even though we know the couple had a daughter named Sarah in 1814

Mary Ann Bacon – baptized on the 1st of December 1817 at St. Mary de Lode in Gloucester.  Mary Ann is my 2nd Great-Grandmother

They then return to Williton in Somerset for the rest of their married lives.

Their daughter Sarah died in September of 1856 (at 42 years of age), Robert died in June of 1866, and his wife Sarah died in October of 1872. They were all were buried at St. Decuman’s churchyard.

When Mr. B and I went to Somerset in the spring of 2015 we spent a few hours at St. Decuman’s and explored the grounds as well as the church.  No sign of the family’s headstone but it was nice to spend some time where my relatives once lived, worked, worshiped and died.
