My maternal grandmother Sophie Gembrin came from a tiny mining town in southern Colorado - Starkville. Sophie's parents owned a saloon just next door to the Malacarne butcher shop. Sophie and Art married, had four daughters and finally settled in the Temescal neighborhood in Oakland, California.
